SCIRT traffic update - week starting 14 July, 2014, second week school holidays
Central City
New Regent St open for business
SCIRT crews are currently working on either side of New Regent St, but maintaining access to the shops. There will
always be one end of this retail area with good pedestrian access.
• Armagh St is westbound between Manchester and Colombo.
• Gloucester St from Colombo to Manchester is currently closed to traffic, but will reopen eastbound Tuesday, then two-way Thursday.
Peterborough St rolling road closures
With wastewater repairs completed along Peterborough St between Colombo and Madras, SCIRT’s Fletcher team now begins
partial road reconstruction and stormwater work. The road will be closed to through traffic, but businesses like Forte
Health will have access.
St Asaph St will be reduced to one lane some days as work progresses to the intersections with Madras and Manchester. There is
electronic signage advising drivers and cyclists.
Tuam St from Monday will be one way east only between High and Madras Streets. (The block just past C1 Café/ Alice in
Videoland).
Madras St (one-way north) is down to one lane in several places up to Bealey Ave until late July.http://strongerchristchurch.govt.nz/work/activity/4997
Barbadoes St (one-way south) has lane closures for final road reconstruction from the river to Melrose St/ south of Bealey Ave. This is the final

Durham St North work is ongoing until 18 July, between Kilmore and Armagh. This one-way south street is also down to a single lane from
Salisbury to Hereford St (past the Law Courts/ Provincial Chambers).http://strongerchristchurch.govt.nz/work/activity/4651
South City entranceway off Durham St - use Alcester St (just before Bath St), not Winchcombe (on the northern edge of South City). In another two weeks,
Winchcombe will be fully closed for a month, in and out.
TIPS
• Use the four avenues for cross-town journeys - go around rather than through.
• Use Fitzgerald Ave and Barbadoes St for southbound morning trips.

Outside the Four Aves
New Brighton Road will become one-way heading east (from the Avondale bridge roundabout at Bassett St to Stour Drive) on Monday for about
a month. Detours are in place following Stour Drive, Vivian, Reginald and Bassett Streets.
Breezes Road, Aranui, one-way for two months
Breezes Road, Aranui, is one-way, southbound only while vacuum wastewater tanks are being installed, from Lenton St to
Cuthberts Road. The northbound detour will be Cuthberts Road to Shortland St/ Pages Road or Shortland St/ Lenton St/

Bickerton St, between Wainoni Road and Tahuna St - will be one-way heading east towards Pages Road as early as Saturday, 12 July, for about two weeks.
Shortland Street, Aranui, is one-way east towards Pages Road.

Upcoming work
Emmett St, Shirley, will be closed in stages from as early as Friday 25 July. Work will start at the intersection of Orion St, with one
crew working north towards Acheson Ave and another south towards Orontes St.
