Power
restored to all customers in north Christchurch
Power has been restored to all customers following a fault yesterday evening on a high voltage 66kV line that runs from Islington to Papanui. The fault initially resulted in the loss of power to approximately 30,000 customers in north and north-west Christchurch at around 9.30pm Wed 9 July.
The cause of the outage will not be known until the high voltage line is able to be examined in the daylight.
CEO Rob Jamieson said "our crews, working in the dark, did a great job to restore power to everyone within a few hours following this rare type of failure. Although very unfortunate for those affected tonight, hopefully this outage can serve as a reminder for everyone to have a backup plan for when power does go off. As a minimum people should have torches, with spare batteries, available."
