Northpower has deployed a helicopter to assess damage to its 50kV line from Maungatapere to Dargaville.
A decision on further aerial assessments will be made later in the morning.
More than 40 lines staff are working in Kaipara and Whangarei Districts to stabilise outages on the Northpower network and restore power.
Back-up crews from Warkworth and Hamilton are on-route to assist also.
