Aratere Update
KiwiRail is continuing to work through the process for returning Aratere to service.
This includes a range of inspections and audits, checks and tests from Classification DNV and Maritime New Zealand, as well as staff training.
MNZ began its audit on Saturday. It is not unexpected this was not completed in a single day and is still underway. It has been eight months since the crew last sailed her. KiwiRail is committed to ensuring the vessel and its crew meet all requirements prior to returning to operation.
The Aratere will resume service once these are completed and the ship is confirmed ready.
Currently, the Arahura and Kaitaki are meeting all freight and passenger customer needs.
Monday 7 July and Tuesday July 8:
· Audits, checks and inspections continue.
· Regulatory staff lifeboat and drill trainings continue.
· Preparation of crew and passenger areas continues.
