Porirua Mayor Pounds Pavement for Gigatown Porirua
Porirua Mayor Nick Leggett will be running from Porirua to Wellington next week to boost Porirua’s chances of winning Gigatown.
Mayor Leggett will leave Porirua City Council at 10am on Sunday 13 July and expects to arrive at Wellington Railway Station at 12.30pm.
His run between the two cities is symbolic of the region’s interconnectedness where, should Porirua win Gigatown, all cities will stand to benefit. He will be joined by others along the way and will be welcomed after the 20 km run by Wellington City councillors.
Recently, Wellington’s metro Mayors announced their support for Porirua in the Chorus-led competition that will bring fast, affordable internet to the region.
“Winning the Gigatown competition will transform our region’s economy and the lives of our families,” says Porirua Mayor Nick Leggett.
Porirua is the only North Island city in the running to make the finals and Mayor Leggett is running to get more people joined up as a Porirua supporter at www.gigatown.co.nz.
“Once people join up, we’re asking that they simply do the Quiz Masterclass Series currently on offer at the Gigatown website – www.gigatown.co.nz.
“By just doing the monthly quiz for the next three months, our points tally will sky rocket.”
The economic advantages of winning Gigatown are fantastic, with the winning package including $200,000 toward an incubator project for new start-up companies.
“This will attract high-tech companies offering more jobs and new careers to the region. If we work together on this, we can all win.”
More on Chorus Gigatown Quiz Masterclass Series:
The Quiz Masterclass Series consists of three quizzes. Each quiz focusses on a different topic, with maximum points awarded for supporters doing all three quizzes.
For the July Quiz Masterclass, all questions answered correctly will earn 100 Gigapoints per person; for the August Quiz Masterclass, 200 Gigapoints per person; and for the September Quiz Masterclass, 500 Gigapoints per person.
There are also bonus points up for grabs. People who answer the first two quizzes will earn an extra 1000 Gigapoints and those who answer all three correctly will win 2000 Gigapoints.
You can take the quiz as many times as you like, until you get all 10 questions right. The answers can be found in the link below each question, so you learn as you go.
