Bishop congratulates Hutt Valley justice sector
Chris Bishop, National Party candidate for Hutt South, today congratulated the Hutt Valley justice sector on winning the
"Excellence in Achieving Collective Impact Award" for the Hutt Valley Justice Sector Innovation Project at last night's
IPANZ Awards.
The Ministry of Justice, New Zealand Police, and the Department of Corrections have been successfully working together
to reduce crime and improve efficiency in the Valley, as part of the government's commitment to delivering Better Public
Services for New Zealanders.
"As the Minister of Justice has noted, the Project is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when agencies work
together."
Mr Bishop says the crime figures for the Hutt Valley speak for themselves. Between June 2011 and September 2013:
Total crime is down 23 per cent
Violent crime is down 21 per cent
Youth crime is down a massive 36 per cent; and
Re-offending is down 10 per cent.
“The National-led government has a comprehensive programme to reduce violent crime, youth crime, and re-offending. This
is clearly working well in the Hutt Valley," says Mr Bishop.
