Porirua City Council makes environmental restitution payment
The Porirua City Council has paid $39,375 in environmental restitution to Greater Wellington Regional Council following an incident where effluent was discharged from the Porirua Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Wellington Regional Council and Porirua City Council have agreed that the money should remain in the community where the incident occurred and the full amount will go to the Takapuwahia Stream Restoration Project. This project is coordinated by Ngati Toa, and aims to see an improvement in the quality of water flowing into the Porirua Harbour.
The Wellington District Court ordered the payment following sentencing over a charge relating to an incident that occurred in Porirua District Council Waste Water Treatment in Titahi Bay in October 2013.
