Human powered charity adventure tour launched
The Kapiti Chamber was delighted to be host a unique professional development opportunity and fundraising event on
Wednesday 18 June at the Coastlands Sports Turf. Sarah Wilson, an Adventure Coach, and survivor of Melanoma Cancer, made
an impressive entrance on a scooter pulled by Husky dogs. “Sarah is an inspirational example of how resilience helps
achieve personal success” says Liz Koh, Chair of the Kapiti Chamber of Commerce
The adventure charity tour is designed around Sarah “human-powering” to other Chamber presentations in the Wellington
region, Manawatu and Wanganui. At the Kapiti launch she talked about resilience in the face of obstacles and importance
of overcoming barriers. Daring to dream and being connected to your ‘tribe’ were key themes in her presentation.
In December 2011 Kapiti Women in Business hosted a charity auction raising more than $9,000 in support of the Melanoma
Foundation and Sarah Wilson’s bid to climb Mount Everest. Sarah hoped to conquer Everest in 2012/13. However, while
doing the Cook to Cook adventure in preparation for Everest she received frostbite to her fingers in a life threatening
avalanche accident. Medical advice suggests the likelihood of subsequent frostbite and losing fingers or toes is now
significantly higher which means Everest is off Sarah’s radar.
The evening was fun and informative and enjoyed by everyone attending, raising $225 for the Melanoma Foundation.
