Public Meeting to Save Trolleybuses

Greater Wellington Regional Council will face opposition to its decision to scrap trolleybuses.

The Council is due to make a final decision on the future of the trolleybuses at its full meeting n Wednesday 25 June. The Hearings Committee of the Council recommended the withdrawal of support for the trolleybuses from 1 July 2017.

There will be a public meeting of groups and individuals interested in taking action to change the Council's mind at the Newtown Community Centre at 2pm on Sunday 22 June.

The organisers are concerned not only about the decision but the way the decision was made.

None of the Regional Councillors stated publicly stated that they would vote to scrap the trolleybuses during the local body campaign last year nor was there any mention of it in the early drafts of the Regional Public Transport Plan.
