Findings from review pave positive future for MTG HB
Napier City Council is looking forward to a positive future for MTG Hawke’s Bay having received the final review on the facility from McDermott Miller Strategies.
Since MTG Hawke’s Bay re-opened in September in 2013 Napier City Council acknowledged some fine tuning was required in order for the facility to operate to its full potential, and commissioned the independent review.
Napier City Council Chief Executive, Wayne Jack
says the Council initiated the review with the aim of
finding the right path forward for MTG Hawke’s
Bay.
“Our priority is for MTG to realise its full
potential,” Mr Jack said. “We want to get it back on
track so it will be embraced by locals and visitors
alike.”
The key summary recommendations from the review
are that MTG:
· Reviews its strategic approach
· Includes more regional exhibitions
· Further enhance its Taonga Maori and Social History displays
· Increases space available for mounting exhibitions and increase the number of items being exhibited
· Reviews its pricing structure
· Looks at additional storage options
As a result of the recommendations, and in
consultation with Hastings District Council, Napier City
Council will consider the following:
·
Relocation of archives currently located at the MTG, to the
Napier Library building
· Additional storage capacity for the MTG in an off-site Council location
· Look into design and preliminary costings of an additional storage facility
· New admission pricing of $10 for both adult residents and non-residents and $7.50 for students and senior citizens
“It is important to reiterate that Council is extremely proud of MTG. It houses a collection of national importance and earlier this year it won ‘Best Project’ at the NZ Museums Awards 2014,” Mr Jack said.
“The report is extremely thorough and will assist us in moving forward and that is exactly what we plan on doing.”
