Submissions released on Draft Wanaka Lakefront Plan
The Wanaka Community Board has named a panel of three members to hear and consider 377 submissions received on the Draft Wanaka Lakefront Reserves Management Plan. The submissions are available on-line at http://www.qldc.govt.nz/wanaka_lakeside_reserve.
Board Chair Rachel Brown and members Bryan Lloyd and Calum MacLeod will hold at least one day of hearings to listen to submitters who want to elaborate on their views in person, with a second day set aside to continue hearings if required. The panel will then begin deliberating on all of the submissions.
They will make recommendations to the full Wanaka Community Board, possibly in time for the August Board meeting, but will not be rushing the process, Rachel Brown says. “We will take as much time as we need to give all the submissions the careful consideration they deserve.” Most people have indicated whether or not they wanted to speak to their submissions, and Council staff are contacting those who said they wanted to appear before the panel to allocate speaking times.
Final responsibility for adopting a new Reserve Management Plan for the lakefront rests with the Queenstown Lakes District Council, which will base its decision on the recommendation of the Wanaka Community Board.
