KidsCan Lumino Day Returns
KIDSCAN LUMINO DAY RETURNS!
SATURDAY 14 JUNE
2014
OFFERING MORE FREE DENTAL CARE TO FAMILIES WHO NEED
IT MOST
For the second year running, Lumino The Dentists and KidsCan team up for an entire day to provide free dental treatments to those in need throughout New Zealand.
Twenty-five Lumino practices across New Zealand, from Kaitaia to Dunedin, will be opening their doors on Saturday 14 June 2014 to KidsCan families, with Lumino’s dentists, hygienists and support staff all pitching in, with the goal of treating more than 500 patients on the day. The value of the donated dental treatment is expected to exceed $150,000.
Last year, the inaugural KidsCan Lumino Day provided almost $130,000 worth of free dental treatments to adult family members of children who attend participating KidsCan schools. The success of the first KidsCan Lumino Day means that there is much anticipation for this year’s event. The aim is to grow the number of patients receiving dental treatments on the day, to ensure more families get the help they need.
The success stories from KidsCan Lumino Day 2013 proved that this initiative was well received by both the Lumino practices and the many families who received the treatment. Many of the practices who participated last year are getting on board again, with a few new additions, and are all very pleased to be part of this great initiative.
Levin resident Siela Nau had suffered with terrible tooth pain for several weeks. It made life unbearable for him and his family. He had applied for a loan from the bank to pay for dental treatment but had been declined.
“I don’t know what I’d have done if the dentist hadn’t taken that tooth out. I couldn’t even eat properly. It made working very hard. Once the tooth came out it was very very good. The family was pleased too. Not so grumpy all the time anymore!”
Lead Dentist at Lumino Mt Eden, Dr Anna Walker, is excited to see the initiative continue after the success of 2013.
“Last year’s Lumino Day was an incredible opportunity for us to not only provide a helping hand but also educate people on the importance of oral hygiene and maintaining a smile for life. We are looking forward to being involved in Lumino Day again and helping KidsCan families in our local communities.”
Marketing manager for Lumino The Dentists, Kerry Dunphy, says the day is something Lumino staff look forward to immensely.
“The first Lumino Day was an incredibly uplifting experience and we were so humbled by the people we met and were able to help on Lumino Day. There was so much positive feedback from patients who had sometimes put off having dental treatment for months and even years. We are delighted to have this opportunity to work with KidsCan and hold Lumino Day again.”
With no funded or subsidised dental treatment for adults in New Zealand, KidsCan’s GM Marketing and Fundraising, Jan Clark, believes Lumino Day is a godsend for families who delay seeing a dentist due to finances.
“Dental treatment is often at the bottom of the list for households who are struggling to make ends meet. That’s why KidsCan Lumino Day is aimed at helping the parents and adult family members of our KidsCan kids. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to help families in our communities access high quality dental treatment, for free”.
KidsCan Lumino Day will be held throughout New Zealand at participating Lumino practices all day on Saturday 14 June 2014.
