By-election for Shirley–Papanui Community Board member
Nominations are now open for candidates seeking a position representing the community on the Shirley–Papanui Community Board.
The by-election will be held on Friday 29 August and is the result of the recent resignation of Shirley–Papanui Community Board Deputy Chair Gemma Maslin. Nominations must be received by Electoral Officer Clare Sullivan by noon on Thursday 3 July 2014.
“With 16 nominations in the 2013 local body elections, Shirley–Papanui had more candidates than any other ward, so we know there are a lot of passionate people in the area,” Ms Sullivan says.
“Our Community Boards are doing an amazing job advocating for the interests of their community, and this is the perfect opportunity for someone to earn a spot at the table and represent their ward at the governance level.”
Nomination forms are available online at www.ccc.govt.nz/elections, from the Papanui Service Centre and Library at the corner of Langdons Road and Restell Street , the Shirley Service Centre at 36 Marshland Road and at the Ground Floor Reception of the Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street. Candidates are encouraged to include a profile statement and recent photograph for inclusion with voting documents should an election take place.
An election will only be held if there is more than one candidate. Voting papers will be sent to enrolled Shirley–Papanui residents from Thursday 7 to Tuesday 12 August 2014. Voting closes at noon on Friday 29 August 2014.
Anyone who is a New Zealand citizen, aged over 18 years and enrolled on the parliamentary electoral roll is eligible to stand as an electoral candidate. They must be nominated by two people, both of whom must be over 18 years old and enrolled to vote in the Shirley–Papanui ward. They must also pay a $200 deposit, with an internet payment option now available.
