Let your child’s mind soar with Winter Warmers
Online registration for this year’s Winter Warmers reading programme opens on Monday 16 June at 10am.
Paula Murdoch, Hastings District Libraries Manager says the programme has limited places, but all children are welcome to attend the accompanying free entertainment that will be held during the school holidays in the Flaxmere, Hastings and Havelock North Libraries.
“We recommend parents take this opportunity to register their children who might benefit from having support with their reading over the school holidays.”
Councillor Tania Kerr says this programme is a great opportunity for helping children keep up the reading skills they have worked hard on during the school term.
“Ideally, we want to reach even more children and support literacy in the community. If you miss out on a place in this free programme we encourage you to talk with library staff about other fun ways you can support your children’s literacy.”
Children enrolled in the programme receive a booklet in which they can write reviews, draw pictures, or design covers for the library books they've been reading. They are rewarded with incentive prizes along the way, and at the end attend a finale celebration with prizes.
Families that don’t have access to the internet at home can come into the libraries to register for free. A computer will be available and staff on hand to help with the process.
