Traffic update – Queen’s Birthday weekend, week of 2 June
Work in the Central City
Bealey Avenue lane reduction – this weekend
Bealey Avenue between Barbadoes and Madras Streets will be reduced to one lane west bound from 6am Saturday 31 May until 6am Tuesday 3 June.
Wastewater replacement work is being carried out at the intersection of Bealey Avenue and Madras Street.
No right turn will be permitted from Bealey Avenue into Madras Street north while this work occurs. Alternative route west is via Kilmore Street.
Motorists are advised to expect delays on Bealey Avenue heading westbound – particularly between 11am and 3pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
Hereford Street
Hereford Street between Cambridge Terrace and Oxford Terrace is one way eastbound only. Traffic heading north along Oxford Terrace will be unable to turn left into Hereford Street.
Expect delays on these roads in peak times:
Barbadoes Street - Single lane in places between Bealey Avenue and Moorhouse Avenue.
Durham Street - Down to one lane from Kilmore Street to south of St Asaph Street.
Madras Street - Down to one lane at the St Asaph Street intersection. Madras Street will continue to be slow next week between Moorhouse Avenue and St Asaph Street. Please allow extra time or consider Fitzgerald Avenue as an alternative.
Drivers are reminded:
Use the four avenues for cross-town journeys - go around rather than through.
Fitzgerald Avenue is a reliable route for both north and southbound journeys.
Use Montreal Street for northbound travel.
