Action being taken on anti-social behavior on trains
Manurewa-Papakura ward Councilor Calum Penrose is encouraged with the long term planning that is being implemented with
both Auckland Transport and New Zealand Police to deliver a safe and reliable train service to the people of the
southern region.
“We are aware of a number issues with anti-social behavior on our trains and we are working to mitigate that and this
week we’ve met with senior representatives from New Zealand Police and have agreed upon a strategy that will see a
Police presence on South bound trains to insure that this service is safe for all who take the opportunity to use what
is nothing short of an effective and excellent service”.
The discussions with Police were held at the Auckland Town Hall this week as Councilor Penrose sought to guarantee that
the forth coming new eclectic trains would be reliable not just in service but safety for those who use them.
“People should be able to use the trains with the assurance that it’s a safe and peaceful environment, we want to make
sure that a message is sent to people using this brilliant service that anti-social behavior will not be tolerated and
long term a joint strategy from Auckland Transport and New Zealand Police will be implemented to see this carry on
following the Police presence.”
Electric trains are due to be running on the Southern bound lines in 12 months’ time.
