Staff restructure proposed for MTG HB
A proposed staffing restructure at MTG Hawke’s Bay was announced to museum staff this morning.
Napier City Council chief executive Wayne Jack told staff the proposed resturcture has been recommended to assist MTG
with delivering its levels of service.
“It’s no secret that we have been looking at how MTG can better serve its purpose,” Mr Jack said.
“MTG has been open since September and we have now had time to reflect on its operations. When opening a new facility,
it’s very hard to project what resources you need. We have now identified some areas where we need to refocus. A
strategic approach needs to be taken to ensure MTG is customer focused and demand-led. Resources also need to be managed
in a finacially sustainable way.”
As a result, a proposed new staffing structure has been drawn up and a period of consultation with all staff would now
begin, Mr Jack said.
A council-commissioned review of MTG would be complete in the next couple of weeks. The key findings of the report will
be released in due course.
“I would like to stress that MTG is a fantastic museum. It recently won the “Museum Projects Award” at the 2014 Museums
Aotearoa. We need to build on the recognition of that award and ensure MTG is a facility that everyone in Hawke’s Bay
can enjoy.”
