Vector Network News
NETWORK SUMMARY for week ending 18 May 2014
ELECTRICITY
There were six car v pole incidents during the week in Beachlands, Mangere, Laingholm, Wattle Downs, Swanson, Manurewa
and Randwick Park. Only council assets were affected in the Wattle Downs and Manurewa incidents.
Seven house/building fires saw Vector crews called out to Grey Lynn, Greenhithe, Gulf Harbour, St Johns, Mairangi Bay,
Ponsonby and Panmure during the week. Power was isolated for safety at each site.
Feeder faults were reported in Milford, Beachhaven, Piha and Flatbush. A report of lines down in Henderson saw damage to
a Telecom asset, with no damage to the Vector network.
GAS
Buildings were evacuated in Otorohanga during the week after an unused service pipe was struck by a contractor. Our
contractors isolated the gas supply. Contractors also struck a gas pipe in Flatbush over the weekend.
PROJECTS
Vector is helping to prepare the Flatbush area for the 40,000 people forecast to be living there by the end of 2025.
Network reinforcement is underway, with works to install cables along six kilometres of roads in Flatbush progressing
well. The work includes major arterial routes, including Chapel & Ormiston Roads, Ti Rakau Drive and Mahunga Drive. A major road crossing at the Maghera/Armoy Drive intersection was
completed last weekend.
The cabling work will provide power to the new substation. Civil works are scheduled for completion by the end of June
and the substation will be in operation in May 2015.
