Top Massey University students acknowledged

Tonight the Palmerston North City Council will award the top four students working towards a Degree in Resource and Environmental Planning with a prize of $500 each.

The prizes are awarded to the students with the highest overall achievement in each year of the Degree. This year’s recipients will receive their prizes in front of families, special guests and Councillors.

The prize giving will be held in the Linkspan, Palmerston North City Council at 6.00pm this evening.

The prizes will be awarded by the Mayor Jono Naylor and Councillor Annette Nixon.
· Recipient of the First Year ‘David Spring’ Planning Prize – Kerry Wynne

· Recipient of the Second Year ‘Ken Nairn’ Planning Prize – Anna Sanson

· Recipient of the Third Year ‘JT Stewart’ Planning Prize – John (Tianxi) Yin

· Recipient of the Fourth Year ‘Bernard J Forde’ Planning Prize – John Harold.

Biographies of recipients:

First Year recipient Kerry Wynne is from Palmerston North and is enjoying the agricultural side of Planning and Policy. She says the first year of study has been really enjoyable and is looking forward to completing her Degree. She has been following the rebuild of Christchurch and considers the opportunities to create a dynamic and sustainable city are exciting.

Second Year student Anna Sanson won the ‘David Spring’ Prize in her first year of study. At the completion of her study Anna is keen to use her skills in both New Zealand and internationally to build better environments for people to live, work and play in.

Third Year student John (Tianxi) Yin also won the ‘David Spring’ Prize in his first year. He has always been interested in sustainable development and urban design. His future plans include working as a planner while completing his postgraduate studies and eventually a career in urban design or transport planning.

Fourth Year student John Harold also won the ‘Ken Nairn’ Planning Prize. He is keen to explore opportunities in the planning profession and put his skills into practice. John is unable to attend the prize giving ceremony tonight.
