CCS Disability Action Helps Parents Get in the Know

Support and advocacy agency CCS Disability Action invites parents, caregivers and whānau of young children with a disability for a ‘cuppa and a conversation’ about services available in the region. The organisation is running a series of five free seminars in both Dargaville and Ruakaka aimed at giving families the tips, tools and information they need to get the best for their child in their local community.

The sessions will be based on the content of the recently published book In the Know, a free Northland-based information and advocacy guide created by CCS Disability Action.

Subjects will include; disability and family life, community-based support options, financial help, navigating the medical system and education in the early years. There will also be plenty of opportunities for one-on-one information and advice.

The book and the seminars were inspired by the challenges many parents and caregivers of disabled children face getting good information about the range of support that is available.

“It can feel challenging to navigate a pathway through the variety of services on offer when you have a child with a disability, and to know what’s available. Often it’s about knowing the right people and the right questions to ask. We’ve developed In the Know and the accompanying seminars to try and bridge that gap,” explains Moira Geerkens, Branch Team Leader for CCS Disability Action.

All children and families are welcome with refreshments provided. The seminars are made possible with the generous support of the Sutherland Self Help Trust.
