Whangarei scores a Vodafone hat trick – RBI, 4G and now UFB
Whangarei’s communications services now rival those of other international cities with the launch of Vodafone Ultra Fast Broadband (UFB) in parts of the city this week. The arrival of UFB in Whangarei follows Vodafone’s launch of 4G mobile technology to over 70 percent of the city’s population, and significant upgrades to rural services under the Government’s Rural Broadband Initiative (RBI).
UFB delivers vastly superior internet speeds to the home compared to standard ADSL, meaning customers can browse, download, upload, game and stream faster than ever before.
Vodafone’s Consumer Director, Matt Williams, says the arrival of Vodafone UFB in Whangarei is an important milestone for the area.
“We’ve invested heavily in our network to deliver a total communications offering that will future proof Whangarei for many years to come – building on our proud history of leading communications in the Whangarei community over the last 16 years.
“A key benefit of our UFB service is Vodafone TV – New Zealand’s first and only full TV service over the new ultra fast broadband network.
“Later this year Vodafone UFB customers in parts of Whangarei will be able to watch their favourite movies, TV shows and sport – from a choice of up to 150 channels – with incredible picture quality and brilliant sound over their Ultra Fast Broadband connection.”
Vodafone TV is available as part of Vodafone Red Home – a complete home communications package offering TV, superfast broadband and home calling options, all in one plan, with one bill.
Matt adds: “While UFB offers customers fast speeds at home, 4G gives locals and visitors to Whangarei superfast access to content and information on the move – up to ten times faster than standard 3G services.
“With both services now available in Whangarei, and a rapidly expanding rural network under the RBI programme, there’s even more reason for customers to choose Vodafone – and to live, study and do business in the Whangarei area.”
Under the Government’s Rural Broadband Initiative, Vodafone has built five new cell sites and upgraded nine of its existing 12 sites in the Whangarei District, making wireless broadband available to over 10,000 rural addresses for the first time. Vodafone will build one more new tower at Pataua in the next 24 months.
