Earthquake strengthening update

The board and myself are currently finalising our strategic plan and reviewing our hire agreements and fees. We expect to ask for applications for gallery users and regular hall and meeting room users around early July of this year.

An archeological assessment was made recently when some items were found in the foundations of the Thistle Hall Office:
Archaeological material found included the remains of at least one (see Pile 1) and probably three wooden piles and domestic animal bone (adult and juvenile sheep, some showing signs of sawing). Soils showed inclusions of charcoal, coal, broken (hand made) brick and marine shell.
It seems very likely that the wooden piles are remnants of the 1870s building previously located on the site and the sheep bones may relate to the time that the area was leased for grazing.

We don't expect this to cause a major delay with our re-opening deadline.

WW1 - alternative viewpoints
Do you want to present an alternative point of view to the mainstream WW100 Centenary Programme? We invite expressions of interest from groups and individuals who would like to use Thistle Hall, in April 2015, to share their work and encourage wider community involvement. We are a Community Centre located in central Wellington, upper Cuba Street. We have a large hall, a gallery and a small meeting room available for use. You may, for example, want to curate or participate in an art exhibition, hold discussions and debates or stage a theatrical or dance production.
