Flooding Taskforce on track to present report next week
The Mayoral Taskforce on Flooding will deliver a report on short-term flood mitigation options for flood-prone areas of
Christchurch including Little River on Monday.
The Taskforce was set up to produce the report on options including:
• Street/neighbourhood temporary operational solutions including localised pumps, temporary localised flood barriers,
flap gates, bunds and sand bagging.
• Individual property level protections including house-raising and base water-proofing.
• Relocation solutions for the most vulnerable households.
On Monday 12 May the Mayor and Councillors will meet to discuss the report and its recommendations and discuss the
preferred solutions.
Mayor Lianne Dalziel says finding a path forward for residents in these areas is one of the Council’s top priorities.
The next step will be to go back to the community to discuss these options.
“People living in flood-prone areas deserve clarity and answers about how their homes will be protected from flooding.
The Council's Taskforce has worked solidly to fast-track this report, and once the most appropriate solutions have been
decided on, work can begin immediately.”
The Council report will be available on the Council website on Monday at www.ccc.govt.nz/floodmitigation. The meeting will also be live-streamed on the Council website athttp://councillive.ccc.govt.nz/live-stream
Community meetings in each of the affected areas will be held in coming weeks where residents can find out further
information.
