Key decisions from today's Council meeting
The Christchurch City Council met today, and made the following key decisions:
Port Hills rockfall mitigation
The Council decided to discuss the matter again at the Council meeting on 12 June, when further information would be
provided on: Council liability on red-zoned properties not purchased by the Crown, including potential liability should
rockfall protection structures fail in the future; the supporting calculations underpinning the cost benefit analysis;
the basis for MBIE review of section 124 notices; specific information on Finnsarby Place and all information provided
to Councillors on 7 May, including the response to the letter from local MP Ruth Dyson to Council and the Cabinet advice
she refers to in her letter.
New cycle lanes
New cycle lanes will be built as part of an upgrade to Awatea Road to make the route safer and connect to the Major
Cycleways route Little River Link (the Southern Motorway shared path). The change was signalled as part of plans to
allow residential development in the area and to cater to the resulting population increase.
An Accessible City
It was decided that the Earthquake Recovery Committee of the Whole’s recommendation to the Council will be considered at
the extraordinary meeting on Monday 12 May. The recommendation is that the Council gives the go-ahead for work to begin
on transport projects needed to support the Anchor Projects, as well as approval to engage with the public and
stakeholders over the design concepts of the initial suite of ‘First Phase Projects’.
Relocation of gaming machines
In line with its Gambling Policy, the Council decided that territorial consent not be granted to the New Zealand Racing
Board to relocate nine gaming machines from the Shirley TAB to a new TAB Board Venue at Addington Raceway.
Exemplar housing
The Council decided that the report on Exemplar housing projects should be referred to the Thursday 22 May Council
meeting, with additional information on the Brougham Streetsite and the previous options. On Thursday 24 April, the
Council endorsed sites at Andrews Crescent and Brougham Village as preferred candidates for Exemplar housing status
under the Land Use Recovery Plan.
