update - week starting 5 May, back to school
With school holidays ending, we expect increased traffic volumes as people return to school and work on 5 May.
Christchurch drivers are
advised:
Use the Four Aves for cross-town
journeys - go around rather than through.
Fitzgerald
Ave is a reliable route for north and southbound
traffic.
Expect delays on Durham St and Barbadoes St,
particularly at peak times.
There will be additional
electronic signs placed along Bealey Ave providing
forewarning and advice to road users.

Alternative
routes into the central city:
Colombo St and
Manchester St south of Bealey Ave are both available
southbound routes into the central city.
Colombo St
south of Bealey takes you into the Square.
Manchester
St runs southbound through to Moorhouse Ave.
Drivers
need to access Manchester St at Bealey Ave from the
Fitzgerald Ave/ westbound side. There is no right turn onto
Manchester in the eastbound lane currently.
Work in the Central
City
Barbadoes Street down to one
lane south of Bealey Ave
Barbadoes St is down to
one lane in places south of Bealey Ave to St Asaph St. Work
on the bridge near the cemetery will also keep this road one
lane only into June.
Tuam
Street
Tuam St is closed between Colombo and
High streets.
Durham Street down to one lane
in some parts
Expect delays on this southbound
one-way route. It will be down to one lane in places from
Bealey Ave to Tuam St.
Ferry Road one way
(at Fitzgerald Ave end)
Ferry Road from Phillips
St/ Lancaster St to Fitzgerald Ave, is one-way, city-bound
only while the pressure wastewater pipe is installed. Detour
routes east bound will be marked. Read the work notice for further
details.
Bealey Ave at Manchester St, one
lane at weekend
On Saturday 3 May and Sunday
4 May Bealey Ave will be one lane only, both east and
westbound at the Manchester St intersection. Expect delays
during peak times.
On Monday 5 May Bealey Ave will be
two lanes both east and westbound at the Manchester St
intersection.
Manchester St, between Bealey Ave and
Purchas St, remains closed.
Oxford Terrace
and Lichfield Street lane reductions
From Monday
5 May Lichfield St will be reduced to one lane, due to works
at the intersection of Lichfield and Durham streets. This
will be in place for approximately two weeks. See the work notice for more
information.
Montreal/Victoria/Salisbury
intersection at clock tower
SCIRT is due to
complete work in this area early next week. Once work is
finished, Victoria St will open again at the clock
tower.
Outside the Four
Aves
Avondale bridge now
open
Avondale bridge reopened on Friday 2 May.
Thanks to everyone in Avondale who has had an extended
detour. Avondale Road is expected to be sealed early next
week.
Gayhurst Road bridge
A
footbridge is being constructed prior to the bridge being
demolished and rebuilt.
Breezes Road,
Avondale
Road repairs that were due to start at
the intersection of Avondale and Breezes Roads in late April
were delayed until Monday 5 May due to bad weather.
Motorists heading east towards Wainoni Road will be detoured
via Niven and Eglinton streets for about four days. More
work will follow.
Maffeys Road, Mt
Pleasant
Maffeys Road will be closed for
approximately one week, between 9am and 5pm only, for
geotechnical investigation work. Residents will still have
access to their properties.
McCormacks Bay
Road one way
McCormacks Bay Road is open to
one-way traffic eastbound (heading towards Redcliffs/Sumner)
past the worksites. See the latest work notice.
Opawa Road
(Hawford Road to Richardson Terrace) wastewater renewal
work
Wastewater renewal work will start on Opawa
Road between Hawford Road and Ford Road from Monday 5 May.
Two way traffic will be maintained on Opawa Road through the
use of traffic lights.
Centaurus/Wilsons Road
roundabout
Centaurus Road continues to be
one-way, westbound only, between Albert Terrace and Ramahana
Road. The traffic lane is now on the left side of the
road.
Albert Terrace is open at Centaurus Road for
left hand turns only.
Innes Road, Mairehau,
one-way for a day, during week of 5 May
Innes
Road will be one-way, towards Hills Road, between Nancy Ave
and Philpotts Road, between 10am and 3pm on one day during
the week of 5 May (weather dependent). Traffic heading
towards Cranford St will be detoured onto Philpotts Road,
Knowles St, Nancy Ave and back onto Innes Road. This work
was originally scheduled to be carried out during the school
holidays, however bad weather meant that it had to be
delayed.
Burwood Road closed outside
Waitakiri School
Burwood Road remains closed to
traffic either side of Waitakiri School. For more
