Horizons receives ‘exceptional’ rating
Minister for the Environment, Hon Amy Adams, has praised Horizons Regional Council for exceptional processing of all consents on time.
In the 2012-13 period Horizons received 374 consent applications and processed them all within the Resource Management Act statutory timeframe.
In a letter received by the Council, Hon Amy Adams says the Government aims to have a resource management system that is more certain, less costly and enables growth, while also protecting core environmental standards.
“Your Council’s excellent performance in processing consent applications on time contributes to the achievement of this goal,” she says.
Horizons chief executive Michael McCartney says the 100 per cent success rate is due to good project management by consents staff.
“Processing consents and getting decisions to applicants on time is part of our goal to make regulation less of a burden. As consent applications can range from individuals applying to do something simple on their property, to a large organisation applying for a complex consent requiring public consultation, this can be quite a challenge,” he says.
“However, on all occasions our consents staff rise to this challenge and I congratulate them for their hard work and a job well done.”
