Stock Truck Effluent Station Planned for Manunui
Ruapehu District Council (RDC) has given the go ahead to the installation of a stock truck effluent (STE) disposal
station in Manunui.
The STE disposal station will be situated near the junction of SH4 and SH41 opposite the fertilizer works in Manunui.
RDC Land Transport Manager, Warren Furner, said that the building of the STE disposal station in Manunui is part of a
national approach to addressing the problem of stock effluent spilling on to roads and the associated road safety and
environmental issues.
“The North Island STE Steering Group produced a list of 41 proposed STE disposal station sites of which the Manunui
location was one,” he said.
“The STE disposal station network makes an important contribution toward improving both national road safety and
environmental sustainability.”
Mr Furner said that the NZ Transport Agency will undertake construction of the project and then retain ownership of the
asset while RDC will oversee on-going operations and maintenance as part of our land transport activity.
“Significantly all construction and operational costs associated with the project will be funded out of the regional
land transport program and such not impact on Council’s land transport budget.”
“The Manunui STE disposal station is expected to be built by the end of June,” he said.
