Vector Crews Good Sorts

Vector crews got more than they bargained for when working at the Gulf Harbour substation last week.

A nose to tail car accident occurred right outside the substation. With two elderly ladies in the front vehicle and small children in the back of the rear vehicle, our lads sprung into action.

While comfort was given to the victims and emergency services were called, the rest of the crew got the first aid kit from their truck, got blankets for the children and stayed to assist until the ambulance arrived.

NETWORK SUMMARY for week ending 4 May 2014
ELECTRICITY
We isolated power at four house/building fires during the week at the request of emergency services, in Narrow Neck, Remuera, Onehunga and Point England. In Bucklands Beach, our contractors made repairs to a pole on fire.

Feeder faults were reported during the week in Swanson, Mt Wellington, Otara and in Mangere East, where trees touching lines were found to be the cause.

Four car vs. pole incidents occurred in the week, in Blockhouse Bay, Lynfield, Papatoetoe and Manurewa. The poles were replaced by our contractors and power was restored. Despite a prolonged outage caused by the Manurewa incident, no customers were affected.

There were three car vs. pillar incidents during the week. No damage was sustained to Vector assets, and only one customer was affected. In a Pakuranga incident, a damaged asset was referred to the council and incidents in Manurewa and Papatoetoe saw damage to Telecom assets only.

GAS

For safety, emergency services requested isolation of gas supply to a building on fire in Paerata. Our crews responded quickly.

Five incidents of gas pipes being struck by contractors were reported during the week in Wattle Downs, Hamilton, Westgate, Orakei and in Long Bay.
No traces of gas were found after reports of gas smells in Henderson and Manurewa during the week. Emergency services advised Vector to stand down from a similar report in Whangarei.

Only one customer was affected during the week by these gas incidents.
