Auckland Council needs to stop racist nonsense
Councillor Dick Quax commented that the Auckland Council survey that asked residents to rate their feelings towards Asians does not come as a great surprise to him.
“I’m appalled that the council is wasting rate payer’s money on this kind of racist nonsense but the Auckland Council sees almost every issue along racial lines. “
Cr Quax pointed to the proposed Auckland Unitary Plan which includes nearly four thousand sites of value to Maori scattered throughout Auckland which require consultation with multiple tribal groups before even the most minor work can commence.
“Other parts of the Plan propose high density living and a number of councillors and local board members have privately commented to me that the Asian immigrants want to live in high rise apartments because that’s what they are used to and the council should cater for their needs.”
“I represent Howick which is home to a large Asian population and they tell me that what attracts them is the quiet suburban lifestyle that is safe and provides their kids with great educational opportunities. In short they want to live the typical kiwi lifestyle.”
“I’m looking forward to the time when the Auckland Council stops trying to pigeon hole Aucklanders along racial lines and treats everyone who lives in this great city as equal both in regards to rights and responsibilities.”
