Trees for Babies – Celebrating Families
Dunedin (Thursday, 1 May 2014) – There will be trees by the dozen being planted at a special celebration on 11 May.
Keep Dunedin Beautiful, in conjunction with Rotary Dunedin, will hold the annual native tree planting on Mother’s Day,
11 May, at 11 am at the Roseneath Reserve in District Road.
Keep Dunedin Beautiful Co-ordinator Darlene Thomson says ‘Trees for Babies – Celebrating Families’ is an
environmental/beautification project. This is the 11th year of the project.
“It is a chance for people to honour, remember or acknowledge someone by planting a native tree for them in a Dunedin
reserve.”
Previous participating families have planted trees for new babies, parents, grandparents, siblings, whole families,
deceased family members or to mark
milestone birthdays or anniversaries.
Family members are welcomed to the site, shown how to plant the trees, the ground is blessed and then trees are planted
in pre-dug holes. Certificates are
presented for the person/family honoured through the planting.
Trees cost $20 and must be pre-ordered and paid for by 8 May.
