Council managing latest flooding
Christchurch City Council staff and contractors are continuing to manage flood issues across the city and Banks
Peninsula following the latest rainstorm.
The rainfall has started to ease and is expected to cease by midnight. Surface flooding is now receding and is expected
to be gone by the early hours of tomorrow morning.
In instances of surface flooding, drivers are asked to be considerate of properties adjacent to any surface flooding.
The Council advises drivers to slow down when driving through flooded areas, as the wake your vehicle creates can send
waves into neighbouring homes and businesses.
Geotechnical teams monitoring hillside areas
Geotechnical consultants are monitoring known risk areas. The Council is asking people in hillside areas to be vigilant,
and to keep an eye out for any telltale signs of land instability, including:
- New cracking to land, buildings, driveways or paths
- Existing cracks that get longer, wider or deeper
- Leaning or bulging of retaining walls
- Rockfalls

Extra care needs to be taken when driving on Cressy Terrace/Park Terrace, Lyttelton due to slips.

Kerbside Wheelie Bin Collection
The following streets will not receive a collection today:
* Hunter Terrace.
* Ernlea Terrace.
* Marion Street.
* Eastern Terrace from Malcolm Ave to Tennyson Street.
* 54 Gainsborough Street to Sparks Road intersection, both sides.
* Marion Street.
The Council advises residents from the streets listed above to put their bins out as normal once the flooding recedes.
Residents from all other streets are advised to place their bins at the kerbside out of flood waters, otherwise please
wait until floodwaters recede before placing at kerbside. Wheelie bin collections throughout the city and Banks
Peninsula will continue as weather permits.
For residents whose bins have been swept away, contact the Council's Customer Call Centre on 941 8999, or 0800 800 169.
The Council recommends that when handling bins that may have come into contact with contaminated water, please use
gloves and your wash your hands after contact.
Health and safety:
The Council's Land Drainage and Roading teams have traffic management plans in place and are assisting residents.
Flood waters on roads and parks may be contaminated, so the Council advises residents to avoid the water where possible
or make sure you wash your hands and remove and wash any clothing that gets wet.
