Minor delays as train changes bed in
Auckland Transport and its rail operator Transdev have been experiencing a few early operational changes with the new electric trains and apologise for any delays. Trains are now back running to schedule.
Auckland Transport’s Chief Operations Officer Greg Edmonds says “On-board staff have been extra vigilant when customers have been boarding and getting off the trains which has caused some minor delays and these have impacted on subsequent services”.
In addition, some customers are still getting used to the way the doors are activated. The door button needs to be pushed only after the door has been released by the train driver. The button on the door lights up (green) to show it has been released for opening.
Mr Edmonds says, “It is not a fault with the trains, it is a mixture of staff being cautious and customers being eager to embrace the new technology. We were prepared for minor teething problems and we expect these issues will disappear as staff and the travelling public become more comfortable with the trains. It might take a few days for the changes to bed in”.
The issue is not impacting customer safety but means dwell times at each station are being extended, particularly with the large numbers travelling today.
