ELECTRIC TRAINS

This weekend marked the introduction of the first electric trains into service in Auckland.

Transpower is responsible for powering the new trains, via 220/25 kV supplies from Penrose and Southdown.

The level crossing bells and barriers are supplied from a secure signalling supply from Vector, with back up UPS systems (batteries and generators).

There were six house/building fires reported during the week, in Grey Lynn, Ranui, Glen Innes, Onehunga, Pakuranga and the CBD. In each instance, solation of the power supply was requested by the emergency services.

Two car v pole incidents occurred during the week. Only one customer was affected in the incident in Mangere. The site of the incident in Hillpark affected a council asset, and the site was made safe and referred to the council.

Feeder faults were reported in Warkworth, Te Hana, Otara, Glen Eden and in Epsom. The Otara incident required branches to be removed from lines.

A zone sub outage occurred in Waimauku and our network control room worked quickly to achieve full restoration of power.

GAS

A smell of gas was reported in Hamilton during the week. Our contractors were on site swiftly but no trace of gas was found. Similar reports were received in Herne Bay and in Glenfield. Repairs were undertaken, and the sites were made safe by our contractors.
