Ruapehu Exceptions Annual Plan Attracts Plenty Of Comment
The consultation on the Ruapehu District Council (RDC) Draft Exceptions Annual Plan 2014/15 (Draft EAP) attracted 83
submissions on 67 different topics.
RDC Chief Executive Peter Till said that putting in a submission on Council’s annual or long term plan is one of the
best ways for residents and ratepayers to influence the work Council does on their behalf.
“Council would always like more submissions but it is always more important that we get quality input and ideas rather
than sheer numbers,” he said.
“This year the largest number of submissions were on the; proposed rate increases (25), tourism tax discussion (17),
transfer stations (10), proposed library book budget cuts (17) and footpaths (8).”
“45 submitters have opted to speak in support of their submission with 22 in Ohakune and 23 in Taumarunui.”
“This was the largest number of submissions Council had received on the rates issue.”
“Council and Ruapehu ratepayers need to have a serious and well informed discussion on this issue and its implications
for future infrastructure and services,” he said.
“I am personally really looking forward to an exciting exchange of ideas on this subject.”
Mr Till said that Council would like to thank everyone who took the time and effort to put in a submission.
”Community input is an invaluable part of Council’s planning process.”
“Council’s hearings and deliberations on the Draft EAP are set for the 6th, 7th, and 8th May with adoption of the plan
scheduled for Tuesday 24th June.”
