Buskers compete for your vote

May is New Zealand Music Month and to celebrate Mainstreet Wanganui is busy organising the second annual ‘Great Busk Off.’

An opportunity to showcase local talent as they compete for your votes to become Whanganui’s favourite busker. The Busk Off took place for the first time last year and was so well attended that Mainstreet decided it had to become an annual fixture on their calendar of events.

For those who missed the Busk Off last year here’s how it works. Head down to Majestic Square between 11am and 2pm on Saturday 3 May. Collect a map of where
all the buskers are located and purchase voting tokens for 50c each. Set off around the CBD to hear all the different buskers representing a variety of ages, instruments and styles. Place your tokens in the hat/case/box of the busker you like the most. At 2pm all musicians will make their way to Majestic Square where their tokens will be The busker with the most tokens wins $500, the busker with the second highest number wins $300 and third wins $200 plus this year Mainstreet has increased their contribution to the event so that all buskers can have their tokens paid out on the day ensuring no busker goes home empty handed.

“We were overwhelmed by the talent and public response to this event last year, we sold over 2000 tokens and we are really excited to celebrate local talent again this year by ensuring that all buskers can have their tokens paid out.” Says Elise Goodge Marketing Manager for Mainstreet Wanganui.
