Total Mobility Returns To South Taranaki

Total Mobility, the subsidised taxi scheme for people with impairments, is back in business in South Taranaki.

From next Monday, 28 April, South Taranaki Total Mobility clients will be served by two Energy City Cabs vehicles based in Hawera. To book before 28 April, call 06 753 8253. From 28 April onwards, call 0800 14 15 25.

The New Plymouth-based taxi company is establishing a Hawera operation primarily to fill the gap left when the Total Mobility contract with the previous operator was suspended in February because contract obligations to the Taranaki Regional Council had not been met.

“We’re delighted that Total Mobility in South Taranaki is being picked up by an experienced operator offering a high level of service,” says the Council’s Transport Services Manager, Chris Clarke.

“There are about 200 Total Mobility users in South Taranaki and we were very aware the suspension of the Scheme had a negative impact on many of them. It really underscored how important Total Mobility is, and how people rely on it.”

Total Mobility users are issued with vouchers entitling them to a discount of up to half the cost of a taxi fare, with a maximum discount of $13. The scheme is for people with impairments that may prevent them from using public transport in a safe and dignified manner.

The Total Mobility service in Hawera will be available 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. At this stage, a subsidized wheelchair hoist service is unavailable.
