Molesworth and Rainbow roads to close due to extreme weather conditions
The Acheron Road through Molesworth Station is to close from Thursday 17 April, due to extreme weather conditions. The heavy rain and wind is causing flooding and hazardous driving conditions in the Station, and is forecast to worsen over the Easter weekend.
The road through the historic high country station in South Marlborough opened to the public on 26 October, and had been due to be open until Monday 21 April. The road will now remain closed until Labour weekend 2014.
The Wairau Hanmer Springs Hydro Road through Rainbow Station is also closed from today until further notice due to flooding and slips.
The severe weather conditions are affecting rivers, roads, tracks and other facilities across the top of the South Island and all members of the public are advised to reconsider any plans for venturing into the back country this weekend. Contact your local Department of Conservation Visitor Centre orwww.doc.govt.nz to check on local conditions and updates.
