Final say on the 2014/15 Draft Annual Plan

It’s your final chance to have a say on the Council’s 2014/15 Draft Annual Plan.
The deadline for public submissions on the draft plan is 5pm on Tuesday 22 April 2014 and 219 submissions have been received so far.

The draft plan is essentially the Council’s equivalent of a household budget. It outlines everything the Council will do over the next year, how much it costs and where the money will come from.

The Major Cycleways network, changes to Recreation and Sport Centre hours and a proposal to complete a planned extension to the tramway system have attracted the most submissions to date.

Council Finance Committee Chairman Raf Manji says the Draft Annual Plan touches the lives of everyone in Christchurch, so it’s important residents take this opportunity to have a say on the future of the city.

“The Council is being prudent with its spending and wants to make small cuts to a range of non-essential services.

“Balancing the books presents some real financial challenges. As well as undertaking initiatives to assist the post-earthquake recovery, we must maintain core services, and at the same time try to keep rates down.
“It’s therefore important we hear what the people of Christchurch think about the proposals in the Draft Annual Plan and what our priorities should be,” he says.

Public hearings of submissions begin in mid-May.
