Wet Easter Weather Ahead
It might be more gumboots than jandals weather ahead for the Easter break. MetService are reporting that an intense low
of tropical origin should be approaching the North Island on Thursday and move slowly southwards on Friday to lie west
of central New Zealand. This is likely to bring strong to gale east to northeast winds and moderate to heavy rain to
many North Island areas.
A lot more people are expected to be heading away this Easter than in recent years with many people taking the three
days off between Easter and ANZAC Day to enjoy a 10 day break before winter.
If travelling away, Vector advises customers to ensure that they have tidied away outdoor furniture, umbrellas and
tarpaulins before heading out.
If staying home, please take care with DIY projects. Be aware of overhead lines when moving ladders and make sure that
power tools and appliances do not come into contact with water.
Around 21,000 New Zealanders are injured in their own homes doing DIY each year – that’s about 59 people a day or one
person every 24 minutes.

ELECTRICITY
In Remuera, a member of the public reported a burst water main showering water onto live power lines. Emergency services
advised that our contractors were not required to attend.
Emergency services advised of a medically dependent customer being without power in Morningside. Vector kept abreast of
the situation, with emergency services advising there was no need for us to attend.
Despite four car v pole incidents being reported during the week in Mt Eden, Glen Innes, Mt Eden South and Torbay, only
one customer was affected. The necessary repairs were carried out on damaged assets.
House/building fires were reported in Stanmore Bay, Manurewa, Waiatarua, Henderson Valley and Papatoetoe. Reports were
received of a smoking meter in Glen Eden, and power was isolated for safety.
GAS
Buildings were evacuated in central Manukau during the week, when a smell of gas was reported. Our contractors attended,
checked the site for safety, and advised there was no trace of gas.
Emergency services informed us of contractors striking a pipe in Pt Chevalier and Papamoa. Services were restored once
repairs were made.
A smell of gas was reported in Greenlane. Contractors attended, no leak was found, and the site was declared safe.
