The Suburban Rumbler Takes to the streets this Easter
For the past 3 years the Otago Heritage Bus Society has been an essential part of public transport during major public
holidays, this Easter will be no excuse not to operate Dunedin's growing 'Heritage Bus Collection' to serve the
community whilst commercial operators take a break from their usual daily activities.
On three days each year, Good Friday, Easter Sunday andChristmas Day Dunedin is not covered by the Otago Regional
Council's integrated network of Gobus services. The Otago Heritage Bus Society and its’ members have a passion for
public transport, and we want to serve the widest possible portion of Dunedin’s community since we now have four
operational vehicles within our fleet of seven, all of the vehicles operated have a stack of local and national history
behind them, making them very special to our community and our nation.
Easter 2013 saw us trial the carriage of allowing dogs onboard our bus services. this deemed popular by passengers and
we will continue to allow well behaved dogs to join their owners onboard the heritage buses again this year. Travelling
dogs is a common site in some parts of Australia , Asia and Europe. Along the St. Kilda - Brockville / Halfway Bush
route we will also serve the Dunedin Dog Park at the corner of Wakari and Taieri Rd to give our furry four –legged
friends a fun destination to go too.
Fares are $10 for an unlimited all-day pass (to both routes) or by gold coin donation for humans. Dogs ride free with
their owners. Fares are purchased from the onboard volunteer driver or conductor on the day.
All proceeds from the Suburban Rumbler services go back into restorations and operations of the Otago Heritage Bus
Society to further benefit the community, such as the relocation and restoration of Dunedin’s first trolley bus - DCT
#1, which is currently in Wellington awaiting retrieval.
