Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to attend Palm Sunday Worship
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are to worship at St Paul’s Cathedral in Dunedin on Sunday April 13th.
Representatives of the wider city will join the regular Cathedral congregation for the service with members of the public who responded to the invitation to attend.
There has been a special effort to ensure students from local secondary schools could attend. Students from St Hilda’s Collegiate School will take part in the service and representatives of the University of Otago and Selwyn College.
The Dean of the Cathedral, the Very Rev’d Dr Trevor James, says one of the daily roles of a Cathedral is hospitality and the Cathedral’s existence in the octagon has it very much the soul in the heart of the city.
“It is an honour to be able to provide a place for worship for the Duke and Duchess during their visit to Dunedin. The coming together for worship on Palm Sunday reflects the wide bonds of the Anglican Communion as the Church throughout the world remembers Christ’s entry into Jerusalem at the beginning
of Holy Week. “
“We have made every effort to ensure, with the seating available, that a wide cross section of the city has been able to attend and there are more people interested than seats available with a full Cathedral congregation expected of approximately 470.”
The Dean of the Cathedral will lead the service of Choral Eucharist and the Bishop of Dunedin, the Rt Rev’d Dr Kelvin Wright will give the blessing.
