Anadarko Farewell Party
Today Oil Free Otautahi will hold a farewell party for Anadarko's drill ship, The Nobel Bob Douglas, as it departs our waters after drilling exploratory oil wells off Taranaki and Otago's coasts.
The event will be held at 442 Tuam St youth venue from 7:00-10:00pm and will include speeches, live entertainment and refreshments. We're celebrating that Anadarko are no longer in our waters putting our oceanic marine systems at risk and the opportunities we have in Christchurch to embrace a sustainable future.
"In the interests of New Zealand and future generations our government must abandon this venture to find more fossil fuels and concentrate its efforts on a clean energy future which Kiwis can be proud of."- says Siana Fitzjohn, OFO organizer.
"The recent failure of Anadarko to find oil in our waters demonstrates the vulnerability of the fossil fuel industry and highlights the shortsightedness of Simon Bridges' recent announcements to open up large new areas for exploration."
