Rural fire authority declares Prohibited Fire Season
The Palmerston North City Council would like to notify residents that a Prohibited Fire Season has been declared for the Palmerston North rural fire area.
The prohibition is from midnight Wednesday 9 April 2013 until further notice.
Principal rural fire officer, Stewart Davies, says no fires are to be lit in the Palmerston North Rural Fire area with the exception of barbecues lit in properly constructed containers and fuelled with LPG.
Stewart Davies says while we’ve had a small amount of precipitation in recent days it hasn’t been enough to undo the damage caused by two very dry months.
All fire permits previously issued will be cancelled from the above date until further notice.
For all fire emergencies please phone 111 and give your name, address, telephone number and rural number if applicable.
