SCIRT traffic update for week starting 7 April, 2014: expect significant delays Durham St and Montreal St
Durham St South
Expect significant delays on this southbound route south of Cashel St/ past the old Police Station over the next two
months. The pinchpoint in the city is leading to delays right back to Bealey Ave. Durham St will be reduced to one lane
around the work site progressing through to Tuam St for up to six weeks.
Montreal/ Victoria St: Montreal one lane north from today
SCIRT work in the Montreal/Victoria/ Salisbury intersection, at the Clock Tower, will create significant delays for the
next month, particular for people heading north in the evening peak hours.
• Both Montreal Street and Salisbury Street will be reduced to one lane at this intersection.
• Drivers need to allow extra time, especially at peak times or find an alternate northbound route like Fitzgerald
Ave.
• Victoria Street will be closed at the Clock Tower, with access to Victoria St between Salisbury and Kilmore
Streets via Peterborough St.
• This is some of the final wastewater connections in this part of the central city, started 15 months ago by
SCIRT’s Fletcher team.

• North and south – Fitzgerald Ave
• East and west – Bealey and Moorhouse Aves.
Madras update:
Madras St (northbound one-way street, east side of central city): Work at Salisbury St will be completed this week, weather dependent. Two lanes should remain.http://strongerchristchurch.govt.nz/work/activity/4600
Park Terrace update:
Park Terrace will be reopened to north bound traffic once it is fully sealed, Armagh St to Dorset St, by the end of April, weather
dependent. In the meantime, it is a southbound route to the city.
Why are you doing all this now?
This work has been clearly signalled by SCIRT over recent months with the need to keep ahead of the precinct and anchor
project work in the CBD so those projects are not delayed.
It is also important to get as much work done during the dry autumn and summer months as possible. Road sealing can be
delayed or take longer to do when the weather turns wet.
People are encouraged to think of other ways to get to work if they work in the CBD. Thanks for being patient and
thinking of ways you can help, while the city’s infrastructure is rebuilt.
