Fanshawe St Bus Lane Progress
Progress is being made to make life easier for bus commuters heading home along Fanshawe Street.
Options are being developed to provide an outbound bus lane from the city centre to the northern motorway to make the
journey faster.
The work is part of a city centre integration programme that aims to take a holistic view across city centre projects to
help Auckland move ahead.
Programme general manager Rick Walden says with 70% of the people on Fanshawe Street during peak hours travelling on
buses, it makes sense to do whatever is possible to get them through the corridor efficiently.
“While there are longer term plans to continue to the Northern Busway to the city centre, a bus lane on the southern
side past Victoria Park is something we can do in the short term that will have real benefits.”
“Auckland Transport has developed some options. The next step will be to test them against traffic models to understand
the wider vehicle movement implications.”
Mr Walden said getting the outbound bus lane completed was a priority and he expected AT would have the bus lane in
place by the middle of the year.
