Over 50,000 items at Christchurch City Libraries book sale

Christchurch City Libraries is making over 50,000 items available for purchase at this year's Big Bargain Book Sale, held at Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre from Friday 21 – Saturday 22 March.

"Word is getting around Christchurch that the Libraries' book sale is one of the year's prime opportunities for snapping up some great reading material," says Libraries and Information Unit Manager Carolyn Robertson.

"In 2013 we had a record 5500 people drop in, all of them on the hunt for quality stock at bargain prices. We hold these big sales annually to keep our stock at a steady level and raise some money. Whenever we purchase new items for our collection, a comparable amount of older items are withdrawn and, if they're in good nick, go up for sale. They tend to find a home very quickly."

The sale includes adult, young adult and children's material in a variety of formats – fiction, nonfiction and large print, as well as magazines, CDs, DVDs and world language material. Children’s books are on sale for $1. Most fiction and non-fiction books are sold for $3, with some higher quality non-fiction books selling for up $20.
