Roger Sutton to lose his locks today for cancer research
Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority chief executive Roger Sutton will have his hair shaved off today as part of
Shave Week, the annual fundraiser for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer.
Since signing up for the fundraiser last week Mr Sutton has raised over $11,000. That does not include the $1000 pledged
by Prime Minister John Key, who has nicknamed Mr Sutton ‘Shrek” due to his mane of blond curls.
On average six New Zealanders are diagnosed with blood cancer or a related illness each day.
Mr Sutton’s willingness to take part this year has been fuelled by his personal
experience of supporting a friend with leukaemia, and a CERA staff member with
blood cancer.
“While we have a huge emphasis on the recovery from the earthquakes here in Christchurch, we also have normal life going
on too. Leukaemia and blood cancer is an all-too-common part of normal life for so many people, and this is my
opportunity to do something to try and help raise funds for research in this area,” Mr Sutton says.
Mr Sutton’s big shave will screen tonight on Seven Sharp, TV One after 7pm.
