Fire Service sends taskforce to Northland ahead of Cyclone Luci
The New Zealand Fire Service is working with
other emergency agencies to prepare for the impact of
Cyclone Luci.
A Fire Service taskforce which includes five appliance and 26 personnel left Takapuna Fire Station this afternoon for Kerikeri so be sure there are enough resources in Northland if needed.
Region Manager Assistant National Commander Brian Butt said parts of Northland are often cut off by floods at Kawakawa and in the Waipu-Ruakaka area. "They are travelling up now while it is safe , to get ahead of the weather."
The appliances will be positioned where they are most needed and will be crewed 24/7 by a mix of volunteer and career personnel from Auckland and Northland.
The taskforce Is taking portable power generators with them to ensure the Kerikeri Fire Service base can remain fully operational if the town's electricity supply is affected.
Further south, Fire Service staff in the central North Island and Nelson are also working closely with Civil Defence and other their emergency services to monitor situation and prepare for any necessary response.
