Key decisions from today’s Council meeting
The Christchurch City Council met today and the following key decisions were made:
Heathcote Voluntary Library and Community Centre to be demolished
The Council approved the recommendations today that the Heathcote Voluntary Library at 8 Martindales Road and the
Community Centre at 45 Bridle Path Road are to be demolished, the latter being subject to written confirmation from the
insurers.
Following feedback received from the Hagley-Ferrymead Community Board, the sites will be left in a community-friendly
condition, the demolition will be as sustainable as possible and include community involvement where possible.
The recommendations also state that the community is to be consulted before any decisions are made on the site for the
new community centre. The final decision on the design detail of the new Heathcote Community Centre facility will be
made by the Community Board.
New Risk and Audit Management Committee established
The Council has established a Risk and Audit Management Committee that will include an independent chairperson and three
independent members. The new committee will ensure appropriate, robust and improved accountability arrangements for
Council processes.
Ferrymead Bridge replacement
The Council approved today recommendation to include in the new roading layout at the Ferrymead Bridge intersection, a
right-turn from Bridle Path Road on to Main Road (Sumner).
Shands Road/Edmonton Road traffic lights get green light
The Council approved today to introduce traffic lights and associated traffic controls at the new intersection of Shands
Road/Edmonton Road.
Lease extension to be explored for Prefab NZ Incorporated
The Council will meet with the Canterbury A Association to discuss the granting of a licence to
Prefab NZ Incorporated for the lease of their current site within the grounds of Canterbury Agricultural Park.
Traffic lights for Marshland Road/Mairehau Road intersection
The Council approved today to introduce traffic lights and associated traffic controls at the intersection of Marshland
Road/Mairehau Road.
