Unique Charity Fundraiser to kick off Easter Weekend
Local men occupy retailer windows in support of local causes
To kick of Easter with a bang Wanganui’s CBD retailers have come up with a new and unique way to combine late night shopping with a charity fundraiser that is sure to put a smile on many women’s faces. They have initiated the first ever ‘Mr Whanganui’ Charity Fundraiser to take place on Thursday 17 April between 6pm and 9pm. Here’s how it will work: on the night you will be able to purchase ‘Mr Whanganui $1 bills’ from stands at the corner of Victoria and Ridgway, Majestic Square and Guyton and Victoria. Then you can head off around the CBD to check out all the men standing in shop windows, each one representing a different charity. Vote for your favourite by giving them your dollar bills. At the end of the night all those bills will be exchanged for real cash money and donated to each man’s chosen charity plus the man with the most bills will be crowned ‘Mr Whanganui 2014.’ On top of all that Mainstreet Wanganui has contributed a further $1000 to the fundraising cause, the man with the most bills will win a further $500 for his charity, the runner up and further $300 and the third place getter a further $200.
Local restaurants and cafes have come on board as well with many offering dinner or drink discounts on the night and all participating stores will be open late.
“This promotion brings window shopping to a whole new level,” says Mainstreet Wanganui Marketing Manager Elise Goodge, “we have been overwhelmed by the positive response from retailers who just want to get on board and help raise money for worthy local causes.”
Mainstreet Wanganui has already had a number of men volunteer to go in windows but they still need more so if you would like to participate and raise money for an organisation you support you can contact Kirsty Davidson at Etcetera Fashion and Bridal on 348 2003 or email kirsty.davidson@xtra.co.nz to volunteer.
